The Ironic Lesson

Join us on our Sustainability Journey.

Our children have a funny way of teaching us. I originally trained as a Secondary Teacher of English and Drama. I taught in high schools for over 10 years and I loved the routine and structure of the classroom. I liked having a formula to teaching - thesis, antithesis, synthesis. I did a lot of teaching, but I only started learning once I became a mum.

My girls have taught me that the best learning is done through play. I’ve found a way to let go of the mindset of structured lessons and have given way to spontaneous play as the most valuable learning tool. Who knew that counting backwards would come naturally from stacking and unstacking pebbles in the backyard?

Retraining as an ECT has come as a natural step in my evolution as a mum and a teacher and I can’t wait to see what lessons your children will teach me!

Our Story

Join us on our journey.

Having children made me realise that what I always knew to be important, is now critical. Our centre has been designed to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of our pedagogy and service.

Our centre has been designed with the capacity to run off renewable energy in the form of rooftop solar cells and batteries with a charging station for electric powered vehicles onsite.

Our resources are eco-friendly and sustainable. For example, our toys used for sand and water play have been sourced from Denmark and are made from recycled maritime materials such as fishing nets, ropes and trawls which have been removed from our oceans. Additionally, our furniture has been custom designed and made in Australia using only FSC certified products with an E0 or E1 emission measure.

Our programs are designed to ensure that our children grow to respect and revere the natural world and its wonders. Worm farms, Kindy pets, edible gardens and exciting excursions are just a few of the surprises we have in store for your children.

Do you have any suggestions for our centre’s sustainability vision? Please share sustainability practices that you have at home!
